- Standards (Monica)
- Marc will give a talk on the i5k standards working group at BGA 2024
- Still slowly but surely progressing on manuscript
- Exec committee (Monica)
- Cameos please! Monica has a list of people to reach out to, but we are always grateful for volunteers. Sign-up sheet for i5k group meeting cameos.docx
- I5k accomplishments summary/overview doc was created for ARS leadership.
- Training (Sue)
- Needs a discussion with this group - what kinds of training videos do we want to see?
- Could ask at i5k session at BG2024
- Could send out survey to i5k community (as long as you’re not USDA)
- Could reach out to USDA SCINet people to collaborate/facilitate. https://github.com/ISUgenomics/bioinformatics-workbook/blob/master/SummaryOld.md
- ERGA Training’s Knowledge Hub getting going … https://knowledge.erga-biodiversity.eu/ . Collects from youtube, github, etc - anything with a DOI. Collects simple metadata which is curated by ERGA team. Not hosting material, more of a catalog. Could i5k have a tag there? Teresa has a slide that could be used to introduce the training
- Could look at training offered at BGA2024 for reference; there could be gaps in that training.
- Standards (Monica)
Genome Project Coordination (Monica)
- Customized i5k submission forms are in progress: GoaT test folder
- Next steps: finish documentation; email to select testers for feedback; create advertising and maintenance plan
- Customized i5k submission forms are in progress: GoaT test folder
- Working group additional items (example: AGS organization discussion from the Outreach WG)
- Other items from the community germane to the cc (e.g. relevant EBP updates, new funding opportunities, meetings/conferences)
- Officialise affiliation with ERGA - see below for procedure - this leadership just needs to write to executive-board@erga-biodiversity.eu to start

- Featured Discussion: Upcoming Biodiversity Genomics meeting
- Meeting is last week of October
- i5k session, 10/28 at 2pm Eastern
- Can working groups provide some slides?
- Do the working groups want feedback?
- New recruitment for i5k/i5k working groups?
- Google form for signup for i5k?
- Beenome/badnome session (Jay Evans)
- Beetle session
- Review of standing dates/times for Coordinating Committee meetings
- Notes from this month’s EBP member meeting:
- EBP’s new social media coordinator is creating ‘affiliated member of the week’ posts. We should think about whether/what we might want to communicate here. EBP has substantially increased their social media metrics since the social media coordinator has started.
- An EBP newsletter is coming out in November. You can go to the EBP website to sign up for this. We can consider adding content to this newsletter. For example, we can send publications/species we’d like to have highlighted.
- JEDI paper - first draft complete
- Subcommittee reports:
Analysis committee is defining goals for the year. Continue discussion about alignments, since this is key for comparative analysis.
- Annotation committee has been rebooted. Meet every other month. Goals are to include a list of recommended tools in the standards document - they are close to this. Next, conversations around metadata they would like to see when annotations are submitted; want to strengthen ties with other annotation generating organizations.
- Duane gave an update on the sample subcommittee. Meeting every other month. Currently seeking 1-2 members for plant, fungal, protist expertise. Manuscript draft on sample collection and processing. Draft will be circulated to EBP members soon.
- Assembly: General assembly report in the works. Have a document on recommended tools for genome assembly. Result of an open meeting 2 months ago (Fridays, organized by VGP).
- IT: organizing a session at BGA, speaker suggestions welcome
- DSI - there was a meeting in Montreal on DSI. Project is moving to Humboldt Institute in Colombia.
- PAG 2025 workshops - should there be an EBP workshop on how to scale up in order to deliver, inviting people from other genome projects on how they delivered.
